Vodafone wins £52 million gas CNI network contract
The contract, effective early September, will see Vodafone link National Gas operational control centres, critical national infrastructure (CNI) data centres and remote sites
Vodafone has won a £52 million contract to provide managed networks for critical national infrastructure (CNI) gas networks in the UK, spanning Wide Area Networks (WAN), satellite connectivity, and more.
The contract, effective early September, will see Vodafone link National Gas operational control centres, critical national infrastructure (CNI) data centres, and a wide range of remote sites, a contract notice said.
This will include “high-bandwidth, layer 2 connections, managed IP networks and LAN across Control Centres and Data Centres” as well as “routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers. Site connectivity is also provided to remote gas sites for control and telemetry” it notes.

The contact comes as Vodafone said this week that it is using a private 5G network to link 23 of Italian gas grid operator Snam’s plants.
It said that the network will allow it to “enable innovative services and solutions. Such services could include field sensors such as leak detectors and other meters that can collect large quantities of local data, anti-intrusion security sensors and perimeter verification, applications for logistics and vehicle management, and AR and VR solutions for technician training and remote assistance.”
Vodafone April 2023 started offering its Mobile Private Network (MPN) solution which it said it hopes to act as a catalyst for innovation in industries such as manufacturing, transport and logistics, energy and healthcare.
