Red Hat poaches Cloudera's head of financial services
Red Hat's play in the financial services space includes containerised services, management and orchestration.
Red Hat has poached Dr Richard Harmon from Cloudera as a new VP and Global Head of Financial Services, in a coup for the company.
Harmon, a widely respected and published industry expert, joined Cloudera in 2016 after a successful five-year stint running business development efforts for SAP across capital markets and central banks.
He takes on the role at Red Hat as the company -- under the ownership of IBM -- saw revenues climb 17% in Q3 (reported October 19th).
Among his areas of expertise is cloud concentration risk and data management across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Harmon noted earlier this year that firms face four key risks in over-reliance on one cloud, including lack of unified data security and governance; cyber attack resilience; vendor lock-in; and operational resilience – warning that regulators are looking increasingly closely at the risks potentially posed by excessive reliance on hyperscalers.
Red Hat's plays in the financial services space include containerised services, container management and orchestration.
The company's OpenShift offering is also at the heart of owner IBM's "Cloud Pak for Data" -- a toolkit built around containers and Kubernetes that can run inside a firewall and which IBM claims can drive a 25–65% reduction in ETL requests for banks looking to make greater use of their data.
