“I’ve got a bone to pick with you. You’ve annoyed me by using a trigger phrase,” says the Bank of England’s Head of DevSecOps drily to GitHub’s Chief Security Officer on a panel at GitHub Universe this week.

In front of a live audience, Vincent King, the Bank’s Head of Secure Cloud Transformation, challenged GitHub’s Mike Hanley on the ubiquitous term at this year’s conference in the context of secure code – shift left.

 “I have strong opinions,” King starts.
